Exporting Gerber files

Sprint Layout produces RS274-X Gerber-files that are used to exchange layout data with PCB manufacturers. Gerber files are common to (almost) all manufacturers. You need a Gerber file for each layer (Copper, Silk screen, Solder mask) to describe a PCB completely.

Call EXPORT -> GERBER EXPORT from the FILE item of the main menu to create a gerber-file. A dialog offers several options that are available with Gerber format.
gerber export
First of all select the layer that has to be exported. Whenever you select a layer the options MIRROR and DIMENSIONS are set suitable, but can be changed if necessary.

Mirror
This option mirrors the output of the layer. Usually the layers for the solder side of the board are mirrored.

Board outline
This option adds the outline of the board to the output. Helpful to find the correct position for the layout on the board.

Punch drill holes
This options punches all drill holes of pads, which means that the inside diameter of pads is free from copper. Usually this option is NOT necessary. Drilling the board will punch the pads anyway. This option may be helpful if you drill the board by hand, but some manufacturers get in trouble with this option selected.

Mark drill holes
This option is only available with the option PUNCH DRILL HOLES. This options puts only tiny marks to the centre of copper pads, which make it easier, to drill the board by hand.

Options for solder mask
These options are only available, if you select the solder mask for C1 or C2. You can adjust the offset of the pads or SMD-pads seperately. You can even select if you want to export the solder mask for normal pads, SMD-pads or both.
With the option INVERTING OUTPUT you are able to invert the export.

The SAVE button writes the gerber-file with the selected options to disk.

Tip:
Ask your manufacturer for information. He will tell you which options are helpful for production.
