This page allows the system administrator to specify users who can launch the Serial Monitor and use its monitoring features.
Only local, domain administrator or a person with corresponding rights (write to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry keys, install and manage device drivers) will get full access to this page. Everyone else will get read-only access to this page.
First of all, this window allows two configurations: default and multi-user.
Default Configuration
In default configuration, any user allowed to start device drivers on the local machine will be able to start and use the Serial Monitor. Usually this includes members of Administrators and Power Users groups. Use this configuration if you are the only user of the Serial Monitor and you are an administrator on your local machine or where all other users are members of the Users group and should therefore be prohibited from using the Serial Monitor. This is the default configuration.
Note: Users, not allowed to start device drivers will not even be able to launch the Serial Monitor. If they launch it, they will receive the error message.
Multi-user Configuration
In this configuration you gain a full access to the security features of the Serial Monitor. The local or domain administrator can manage users, allowing or disallowing them access to launch and use the Serial Monitor. If you select this configuration the list containing securable Serial Monitor modules will be activated. You can highlight the entry and press the Security... button to open the standard Windows Security dialog. Here you can select users or groups and manage access type for them. Right now only one access type is supported - Monitoring and you can either grant or deny this type of access to a user or a group.
Note: When you activate this configuration for the first time, no one gets Monitoring access to all securable Serial Monitor modules. You have to manually grant access to required persons.
